M.J. KHAN RUNNING FOR THE BIG SPOT! OFFICIALLY ON LIST FOR CITY CONTROLLER!
By ISIAH CAREY, Isiah Carey's 'Insight' - Wednesday, September 2, 2009 Houston City Councilman M.J. Khan has officially tossed in his hat for the position of City Controller. Khan filed the paperwork needed to have his name placed on the ballot for the Nov. 3 election Wednesday afternoon. "In our challenging economic times, it is important to have a taxpayer's advocate in the office of City Controller. The citizens of Houston deserve a dedicated civil servant who has the necessary professional knowledge and experience to serve as their City Controller," Khan said in a statement issued to the media. Khan is currently serving his third term as the Council Member representing District F. In the statement, Khan says he will focus on the following the items: Guard your hard-earned tax dollars by blocking frivolous government spending, Push for fiscal reform by holding all departments responsible for detailed ledgers and explanations, Provide tight fiscal management of the Citys affairs, Improve efficiency through process reengineering and by conducting performance and fiscal audits of City departments and authorities, Save the city money by requiring all departments to provide services in a more efficient manner while saving money, Examine the refinancing of debt and the reallocation of funds through revenue enhancement and compliance audits.
